DRAWN BETWEEN
DRAWN BETWEEN is an ongoing collection of original pencil drawings exploring the space between observation and imagination, memory and reality, presence and disconnection. This project began during my A-level Art & Design studies, where I first explored distortion within portraiture. What started as an investigation into altering and distorting the human face gradually developed into a much more personal exploration of dissacociation and derealisation. These are experiences that can make the present feel distant or unfamiliar. I find memories increasingly difficult to hold onto, frequently merging fact with imagination, especially in a world where authenticity is difficult to gauge (with the rise of AI etc).
Throughout the collection, I work with figures, faces, imagined forms and fragments of moments. Some drawings begin through direct observation, whilst others develop from ‘memory’. I am interested in what happened when these sources overlap. Features can repeat, disappear, merge and distort - creating images that sit somewhere between something seen and something remembered.
Pencil has remained at the center of the project due to its physical and immediate nature. Each drawing is built gradually through graphite and eraser. The process allows the images to change as they develop, marks can be erased, redrawn, softened or built up on. The finished drawings become a physical attempt to capture something that can feel fleeting.
The collection considers ideas of authenticity and reality. In a world increasingly filled with AI ‘slop’ DRAWN BETWEEN is deliberately grounded in something tangible. Every mark has been made by hand, on paper, over time.

The exhibition event was an oppurtunity to take the wider collection beyond the drawings themselves and create an environment around the project. A selection of original artworks were displayed in 92 Degrees, Jamaica Street, The Baltic.
For the closing night, I organised a couple hours of drinks, artwork and music for friends and family.
I designed and produced a series of ‘goodie bags’ for guests as a thank you for their support, extending the visual identity of HOPE CREATES into something they could take away with them. The bags featured
